Driven Hunt
Driven Hunt
A traditional driven hunt or montería is an ancient hunting form which shows the maximum expression of traditional social hunting. While in open areas the amount of hunters is relatively large (30-50 hunters) and the expected bags are quite low, in closed areas the number of hunters is reduced (5-15 hunters) and the bags are increased.
Many people gather up in the farm for a warm breakfast of spanish “migas” with eggs and sausages while getting ready for the hunt. After that the blinds raffle is done (sorteo) where hunters pick a spot in the hunting area.
When the raffle is done, hunters go to their blinds accompanied by their guide and around noon the dog herds accompanied by guides are loosed in the hunting areas searching for the different game species. After that, the game species run to the different blinds where the hunters wait, and the shooting festival starts!
After that, around 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm the hunters generally gather up in the farm´s house to have a traditional lunch and talk about the hunt while the species are brought. When everything is done, people enjoy drinks in the fireplace.
